Charlotte Trolley Inc., a company dedicated to restoring vintage electric streetcars, offers visitors a nostalgic stroll down memory lane with its wonderful museum featuring an exhibit of early streetcars that details the history of the vehicles in the South. The museum is home to the 1927 Car #85, the only electric trolley still in operation in Charlotte, and the 1922 Car #407, considered state-of-the-art for its day and known as the Birney Safety Car because of the "kill switch" that would stop the car in case of emergency.
In addition to their restoration work, Charlotte Trolley was also instrumental in creating a two-mile rail transit system for vintage trolleys. Visitors can now take a delightful, relaxing trolley tour through the most important historic sites of Uptown Charlotte and Historic South End.
