Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte, NC
Aviation buffs will enjoy the Carolinas Aviation Museum, which houses a large aviation library and an impressive collection of over forty-five major aircraft, all restored to flying condition and used in numerous air shows throughout the year. Among the highlights of the Museum are a commercial 1930s Piedmont Airlines Douglas DC-3, which represents the era's idea of flying in style, and a 1960s U.S. Army Grumman OV-1D Mohawk 62-5890, which was used for thirty-five years by battlefield intelligence units. Visitors can also view take-offs and landings from the Museum's location at the Charlotte-Douglas airport, and listen to radio communication between the aircraft and the control tower.
