Dedicated to the conservation of birds of prey, the Carolina Raptor Center specializes in the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned raptors. Visitors can take a guided Trail Trivia Talk tour along the Center's wooded nature trail, where they'll hear interesting facts about the raptor environment and see more than twenty species of majestic birds, including bald eagles, black vultures, broad-winged hawks, great horned owls, merlin ospreys, and peregrine falcons.
The Behind the Scenes tour offers a rare opportunity to learn about rehabilitation, from the initial exam to the strengthening of a bird's wings in the outdoor flight cages. For an exciting interactive experience, guests should check out the Backyard Tails free flight program, where raptors swoosh through the air overhead in the outdoor amphitheatre. The Center also hosts many special events, including the Wild Wings Winter Festival, the Halloween Hoot'N'Howl, and the Owl Prowl, as well as programs for photographers to get up close and personal with the residents.
