Since its inception in 1741, Charleston's Middleton Place has been a sight of majestic architecture, sprawling grounds, and a pivotal family. The plantation survived the American Revolution, the Civil War, and an earthquake across four centuries, and was the beloved home of the Middleton family. Four generations of the family that called the plantation home included the president of the First Continental Congress, a Declaration of Independence signer, a South Carolina Governor, and an Ordinance of Secession signer.
Visitors can spend as little as an hour or as much as a day exploring the home, America's oldest landscaped gardens, working stableyards, and the living House Museum. Relaxing and informative carriage rides are also available, and the nature walk gives guests the opportunity to explore the natural beauty surrounding Middleton Place.
