The South Carolina Center for Birds of Prey aims to identify and address important environmental issues through avian medicine, research and conservation initiatives. This non-profit center participates and supports international conservation issues, runs a clinic for birds of prey that have been injured, promotes and conducts on-site outreach and educational programs and is a first responder for oiled birds affected by an oil spill along the South Atlantic coast. Here, visitors will gain a first-hand understanding of how the ecological status of birds in the wild directly reflects the ecosystem condition as a whole.
More than thirty species of birds are featured at the center including vultures, hawks, owls, eagles, kites and falcons. Open to all bird lovers, photographers or for those who just want to join the outdoors, a walking educational tour complete with free-flight demonstrations are available.
