Getting Into and Around Cape Cod's Traffic and AirportSince public transportation is quite sparse in the Cape Cod area, it is advisable that you rent a car or drive to the area. The main roads in the Upper Cape are Route 6, Route 6A, Route 28, Route 132 and Route 151. In the Lower Cape it's Old King's Highway and Route 28. There is a great resource available from the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce called Smart Guide that gives travelers a lot of good information on getting around the area. AIRPORT The Cape Cod area is served by a number of airports, but the most frequently used airport is Logan International Airport in Boston (BOS). Approximate flight time to Boston is one hour if coming from New York, six hours from Los Angeles and between two to three hours from Chicago. Logan International Airport features onsite restaurants, gift shops, banking services, shoe shine services, manicure services and internet kiosks. There are six car rental companies operating onsite at the airport. They include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, and National. There are additional car rental companies located offsite, but nearby the airport. There are taxis available at the airport terminals 24 hours a day. These taxis offer service to all of New England. Limousines are available by advanced reservation only. The area is also served by T.F. Green Airport, Barnstable Municipal Airport, and Provincetown Municipal Airport. Small flights from BOS fly directly into these smaller airports to get you closer to your destination. Car rental facilities offer service at these airports as well. TROLLEY AND BUS The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority offers trolley service throughout Dennis, Yarmouth, Falmouth, Mashpee, and Hyannis during peak seasons. For exact schedule and fare information, you can visit their website. That website is also the site to visit to obtain Bus schedule and rate information as well. TRAIN The Plymouth and Brockton Street Railway offers service to Provincetown from Boston and Logan Airport with multiple stops in between. For exact route and fare information, visit their website. |
