Celebrate the Spud at the Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory

You can see, smell and even taste the culinary craftsmanship that goes into Cape Cod Potato Chips when you take a tour of the famous factory in Hyannis, Massachusetts, where they've made the famous snacks since 1980.

The free, self-guided tours run about 30 minutes and are open to the public 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. From an enclosed glass viewing corridor, you'll get to watch the potato chip maestros peel the potatoes, slice them, fry them in their unique kettle-cooked method and bag them.

Did you know it takes about four pounds of potatoes to make one pound of chips? You'll hear about that and an assortment of other amazing facts during this excursion.

At the end of the tour you'll get an extra-special treat, a free sample bag of chips.

After your tour, you can visit the gift shop that boasts novelty shirts, caps and collectibles along with some of Cape Cod Chips' other snack products, like popcorn, pretzels and tortilla chips. If you're going to buy anything, leave the credit cards and checkbook at home ' they only accept cash.

To get to the Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory from Route 6 East, take Exit 6 and turn right onto Route 132. Take a left at the fourth traffic light onto Independence Drive and take your second right onto Breed's Hill Road. The factory will be on your left.
