The Universidad del Caribe (University of the Caribbean) in Cancun, Mexico, has been recognized by the Secretary of Public Education for its academic excellence. This institute of higher learning has been in operation since September of 2000, and has been growing ever since in both the size of its infrastructure and the quality of its services. The university is housed in three buildings that are equipped with modern facilities that include laboratories, kitchens, engineering, a language center and a library. The university's goal is to help students develop a sense of professionalism and social responsibility as they pursue their courses of study.
The University of the Caribbean places great emphasis on developing strong English language skills. Among the courses available for students are Gastronomy, International Business, Industrial Engineering, Planning and Finances, Environmental Studies, Production, Manufacturing and Maintenance; Viable Tourism and Hotel Management, Planning and Tourist Development, Hotel Professions, Alternative Tourism and Health, Engineering in Telematics (with two terminal options), Telecommunications, Networks, and Enterprise Innovation. There are also courses in athletics and the arts.
The University of the Caribbean has also joined forces with the Via Delphi Group in Quintana Roo and Uniglobal to improve the conditions of aquatic animals, particularly dolphins, living in artificial environments. The Via Delphi Groups has a dolphin-swim operation. Uniglobal helps to expand the number of professional people working in the tourist industry and raise tourism standards. At the university, students will be trained in dolphin behavior, as well as health, nutrition and hygiene. They will also study ethics, values and professional conduct in working with marine mammals.
