Reserva de la Biosfera
Sian Ka'an in Cancun, QR can be translated to "Where the Sky is Born Natural Reserve."This site rich in Mayan culture is a biosphere reserve and is protected by Mexico because of the many species of plants, insects, animals and habitats in these 1.3 million acres. The area is tropical and located within the Mexican state of Quintana Roo near Cancun and also houses over twenty pre-Columbian archeological sites.
If you want to get in touch with your natural wild side, you can take a kayak tour of Reserva de la Biosfera
Sian Ka'an through part of the mangroves and rainforest area. Of course, it is impossible to traverse through all million plus acres but what you will see are many animals that face extinction. Tons of birds fly overhead and you could very well spot exotic looking insects and spiders, turtles, monkeys, crocodiles, puma and many reptiles.
One of the highlights of Reserva de la Biosfera
Sian Ka'an is the colorful fish and other aquatic life you will see along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, of which part resides within the reserve. You can choose to see some of the Reserve via one of several other tours like a natural history and birding tour that you take on foot through various trails. There is a walking and floating tour where you will visit several Mayan ruins as well as float leisurely down canals which are interlocked with lagoons. Catch and release fishing and snorkeling are other adventures that are in store for you at Reserva de la Biosfera
