Fort Calgary Historic Park in Calgary, Alberta Canada is a true fort. The goal of this park is to help educate about the history of this area as well as to help tell its stories through characters, artifacts and experiences. Through various exhibits, demonstrations, and informational tours and tour guides, guests are able to have a better understanding of the Calgary area of the country.
There are many activities to do at the fort including something for everyone. Guests are able to try on a Northwest Mounted Police uniform. Step into a time period jail cell. Stop and talk to some of the characters from Calgary's past that are dressed up and full of stories, educational tidbits and much more. Take a tour of historic Calgary from a virtual streetcar. Throughout the park are several different stops that you can make to explore. An auto repair shop is located here, a radio station as well as a 1930's drug store. The newspaper publishing office located in the park allows guests to see just how newspapers were made during this time.
The 1930's Palace Theatre is also located in and guests are welcomed to step inside and watch an educational video. What's more, this self guided tour can provide you with a walk around some of the most beautiful community gardens. Visit the historic windmill as well as the bronze buffalo scattered throughout.
The Fort Calgary Historic Park is open year round, except for major holidays. It provides a unique take on the history of the area by telling true stories and reliving the lifestyle.
