Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival at Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary, AB
Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival gathers young students, ages 5 to 25, for an event filled with performances, education and competition. The festival is held at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium each March, and is one of the largest competitive classical music festivals for amateurs in North America. Nearly 9,000 entrants compete for scholarships, and have the chance to perform, listen to their peers, and receive adjudication on national and international levels.
With 16 categories of music, harp, speech, musical theatre, and piano, students have the chance to perform solo, duet, or in ensemble.
The annual tradition is a favorite with those how love music and the speech arts.
Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival enjoys membership in the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals, and the Alberta Music Festival Association.
Built in 1955, the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium was a gift to Calgary residents on the 50th anniversary of Alberta Province.
The auditorium's premiere acoustics lend a distinctive clarity to the music. With seating for more than 2,500 spectators, the auditorium is also home to the Calgary Opera and Alberta Ballet.
