The Calgary Zoo:

If you're planning a trip to Calgary, Alberta, the Calgary Zoo is a must-see. Not only are there a lot of magnificent animals, but you'll find yourself surrounded by the beauty of several different regions of the planet. Not only is it a zoo, but also a botanical garden and prehistoric park. With approximately thirty-seven acres, you will want to bring several rolls of film to keep the memories of this day alive.

Destination Africa occupies 20% of the zoo acreage. It contains the TransAlta Rainforest, which includes 31,000 square feet of tropical rainforest with a variety of flora and animals that represent this area of Africa. The African Savannah is 21,500 square feet of exhibits that show off the plant and animal life indigenous to this region, and an interesting exhibit for the river hippos. Learn about the unique filtration system that keeps 80,000 gallons of water clean for these formidable animals.

The Prehistoric Park will take you back to a time when these beasts roamed the earth. You will get an idea of what Canada looked like when the dinosaurs ruled the earth. If you have a child that has always been fascinated by dinosaurs, this will be an all-time favorite part of the day. More than 100 species of plants and life-sized dinosaurs represent today's understanding of this prehistoric time.

Forget your local garden show. The breathtaking gardens at the Calgary Zoo will take up most of the film you brought along to remember the visit.

The Conservatory houses three distinct environments and can be viewed year-round.
The Arid Garden is a collection of Old and New World cactus and succulents incased in a hot and dry climate. The Rainforest helps you to appreciate a threatened part of our world.
The Butterfly Garden will enchant you with flora and beautiful butterflies by the hundreds.
The Canadian Wilds is a recreation of Canada's own native landscape.
As you dream of your trip to Canada, plan to stay at the Econo Lodge Banff Trail just minutes away from downtown Calgary and all of its major attractions. The Quality Inn Airport would be the place to stay if you fly in for a family vacation. You will be six minutes from downtown Calgary and all the places you will want to see. The Best Western Calgary Centre Inn will also put right in the middle of all that Calgary has to offer.

All of your senses will be abuzz as you experience a zoo that surpasses all you thought a zoo could be.
