Evangel University, just 30 minutes north of Branson, was founded by the General Council of the Assemblies of God in 1953, and is situated on the 80 acres that were formerly the site of the O'Reilly General Hospital. Even during the 1950's when segregation and racism ran rampant, Evangel University was never segregated and never refused anyone admission because of color, race, sex, or ethnicity. They stood true to their theme, "Christ is Lord", through those trying times and never judged anyone based on their appearance. That theme still touches every aspect of campus life today. Evangel University mingles the Christian faith into the chosen career paths of more than 2,000 students from all 50 states and overseas.
This university is a private, coeducational school and has earned the highest level of accreditation available. Today, they offer more than 80 programs in 10 academic departments. The Evangel Crusaders are proud to represent this facility in football, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, volleyball, golf and track. Evangel University and the Assemblies of God headquarters are proud to call Springfield, and the beautiful Ozark Mountains, home.
