In 1989, Pete Herschend, co-owner of
Silver Dollar City, had an idea that has now turned into a Branson Tradition.
Take a 3 mile drive through an animated lights display on a peninsula of Table Rock Lake. Thousands of Christmas lights are arranged and put on display for the holiday season. There are toy soldiers, a Jack-In-The-Box, Cinderella, Cinderella's coach and castle, a hillbilly fisherman and fish, and an American flag that stands 50 feet high and 60 feet wide, and that's just to name a few.
There are two drive-through displays, a Snowflake Tunnel and a Hollywreath Tunnel. The Candy Cane forest leads you past vivid scenery of shining dollhouses, and along the path are glittering bicycles, wagons, buggies, and trucks.
You and your children will have your faces pressed to the foggy windows of your car as you go through these sparkling 3 miles.
The Port of Lights is built and sponsored each year by the Table Rock Lake Chamber of Commerce, and each year the display grows just a little.
The event can be viewed every night from early November through December and has gained national recognition as one of the truly great lighting displays in the country.
