Celebrate Cinco de Mayo, in one of Springfield's most unique and historical parks, with live music, artistic displays, and dancing. Founders Park is unique to Springfield. It sits in the middle of the downtown area, and only takes up 0.7 acres, but is a centerpiece of the downtown Springfield scene. It has a 250 seat amphitheater, that is wired for lights and sound, a re-creation of a spring that the fore-fathers of Springfield once used, a historical mural, a time-line that depicts the first 100 years of Springfield, and is mostly lit by Victorian-style pedestrian light posts.
The park is built on the site, connected by a walking path to Jordan Valley Park, that has previously served as a stone quarry, a blacksmith shop, the Herman-Sanford Horse Collar Factory, the Silsby Stove and Hardware Company, a lumberyard, and a railroad right of way.
The park has so much history, and is hoping to make more during the Arts-Fiesta, that takes places every Cinco de Mayo. There will be mariachi performers from Springfield's Sister City of Tlaquepaque, Mexico, local musicians, and dancers wearing many different fashions from different parts of Mexico. It's a party for the entire family, and one you won't want to miss.
