USS Constitution in the Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston, MA.
The oldest and most famous warship in the U.S Navy is a great experience, even for those of us not deeply interested in historical warfare. The USS Constitution, also known as "Old Ironsides," is definitely worth seeing, as the tour is free and run by current members of the armed forces, who are well-informed of its remarkable history. The USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship, and has gained its noble place in history by fighting everything from pirates to the War of 1812, where it got its name "Old Ironsides." It acquired this name through its battle with British Frigate H.M.S. Guerriere. His ship sunk like a rock, while his canon balls bounced off the side of the USS Constitution like the sides were made of iron. This interesting and informative tour consists of the deck and first floor which features the canons and it is recommended that you arrive early to get through rigorous security measures, although deemed worthy of the hassle.
