The Mayflower II, a replica of the famous ship that sailed the ocean in 1620 bringing men women and children across the Atlantic Ocean with hopes of a new life promising religious freedom. The journey consisted of 66 days of seriously overcrowded conditions, little fresh water, and little food for those aboard the ship, in which many people began to succumb to sea sickness and scurvy. However, only two members of the amazing journey reached death as the ship landed on what today is known as
Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts. The Mayflower II is an English built full scale replica of the original ship and rests at the waterfront and is operated as part of the
Plimoth Plantation. The re-enactors show meticulous attention to detail as they present the habits and character of their seventeenth century subjects. They play parts of the crew and of the passengers and it is encouraged to ask questions and strike up a conversation with them as you will learn a lot about their life time.
