Step out of the city and into the wild at the The Stone Zoo, located just a short 20 minute drive from Boston.
The Stone Zoo sets on 26 acres next to the Spot Pond Reservoir, and has a wide variety of animals to see, as well as an exciting list of daily events, year round. The Stone Zoo houses many different kinds of animals and they have done a great job in replicating the environment in which they have come.
Visit the Yukon Creek exhibit where you will see animals from the Canadian north woods. The exhibit features bald eagles, a lynx, reindeer, and more. Swing by to see the large flamingo colony at the Windows to the Wild exhibit. This exhibit features many small birds, mammals and primates from around the world. Don't miss the African-crested porcupines, hyacinth macaws, and emperor tamarins.
Visit animals like jaguars, cougars, coyotes, and Gila monsters from the Sierra Madre mountain range at the Treasures of the Sierra Madre exhibit. At the Himalayan Highlands exhibit, you will find snow leopards, Markhor Goats, a yak and other hearty animals of this area.
Don't forget to stop off to pet some animals at the Barnyard. This area lets children get close and personal to some of the friendliest animals on the grounds, including sheep, goats, and even a pygmy zebu (a mini cow.)
