The Seashore Trolley Museum is located in the same spot where the trolley service was located when it started in 1893. At that time, it was provided by the Mousam River Railroad, a small electric trolley line. It started as a two-mile line from Sanford to Springvale, but was extended to 20 miles and used to transfer coal to the mills. The Seashore Trolley Museum got its origin in 1939. It started with car No. 31, an single trolley car from a Railroad company owned by Biddeford and Saco. The Museum today has quite a large collection including over 250 different transit vehicles from all over the U.S. Many of these vehicles are trolleys. Some of the collections are vehicles such as New England streetcar, National streetcar, trackless trolleys, Interurban and more. Seashore Trolley Museum is the largest and oldest electric railway museum anywhere. In addition, it is a nonprofit organization run by mostly all volunteers. It is a great educational showcase, dedicated to restoring and preserving every thing they can regarding the museum's history and that of all vehicles.
