Boston's King's Chapel was built in 1749 after King James II ordered an Anglican parish to be built to ensure the presence of the Church of England in America. In 1787, the church became the first Unitarian church in the country, and still maintains an active congregation that uses the Anglican Book of Common Prayer.
A historic burying ground is also located on the site, and many colonists and notable colonial figures are buried here. You can visit the graves of Mary Chilton, the first woman to step off of the
Mayflower; John Winthrop, the first governor of the colony' and Hezekiah Usher, the first printer in the colony! Free tours of the church are offered, and provide an interesting perspective on early life and faith of the settlers.
