On the grounds of the House of Seven Gables rests the birthplace of famous American author Nathaniel Hawthorne.
This house was built at a different location between the years of 1730 and 1745. It was moved to its current location in 1958. It portrays typical architecture for the period including a central chimney, gambrel roof, front and back stairways, and a post-and-lintel doorway. The ground floor has a ground floor and a kitchen, and the second floor features front and back rooms on each side.
Nathaniel Hawthorn was born here on July 4, 1804 and lived here until age 4. This house that was purchased by Hawthorne's grandfather in 1772, and most of the interior has been preserved to reflect the true portrayal of the times.
