Dexter Grist Mill has served three and a half centuries grinding corn with turbine power.
You can watch the wooden gears in action as they grind through corn making it delicious cornmeal and in the end take a bag or two with you to cook up some splendid "jonnycakes" short for cakes of the journey, or some delicious polenta. Fresh cornmeal will run you $3.50 for a three pound bag or $9 for three bags. During the glass boom of the 1800's this mill worked hard to keep the factory workers fed. After being turned into a tearoom, the mill was fully restored in 1961 back into a corn grinding work of art that has continued to serve the area ever since.
