This is the park that General George Washington Gathered his troops at during the American Revolutionary War. The tree under which he rounded everybody up is still standing and is marked with a commemorative plaque and a pair of bronze canons.
This park is also the site of the Irish Famine Memorial. This memorial was dedicated on July 23rd, 1997 by Mary Robinson, the President of Ireland on that day, and was sculpted by a man from Derry, Northern Ireland named Maurice Harron.
