Annual Christmas Prelude Celebration in Kennebunk, Maine, near Boston, MA

The Annual Christmas Prelude Celebration in Kennebunk, Maine is a great holiday celebration to attend. The Christmas Prelude started with a tree lighting ceremony, a concert, chowder luncheon, caroling and Santa arriving by lobster boat. It has grown to have three tree lighting ceremonies and at least 12 Art and Craft Fairs. There are many places serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner. There are programs sponsored by the Historical Society, and at least a dozen musical programs. Santa still arrives by lobster boat and is escorted by two lobster elves. The event also allows many civic and community groups to fund raise. One of the biggest events is the breakfast and dinners served by the firefighters of the Washington Hose Company. The firefighters use the money they raise to purchase rescue equipment, including their rescue boat and outfitting it along with upgrading technical equipment. You will find the town including Kennebunkport and Lower Village decorated for the holidays with Christmas Trees, seashell decorated wreaths and many yards of garland made from greenery and ribbon.
