As the holidays become increasingly near, you've probably got lots of things on your mind--holiday shopping, spending time with family, and traveling, among other things. Why not take a holiday getaway to ease your mind?

In Boston, you'll find activities and shopping destinations that are great for the whole family this holiday season. Below, you'll find a variety of activities, attractions, and shopping information--along with links to full descriptions and opportunities to buy tickets online--that will help you plan the perfect holiday getaway in one of America's most beloved cities.

Shopping

You'll find many stores and shopping centers both in and around Boston. Stop at Wrentham Village Outlets for some great deals on designer items, or go to the big malls like Cambridge Side Galleria for a wider selection. You'll also want to frequent the various shopping districts, like Quincy Market, Newbury Street, and The Garage at Harvard Square. Plus, at this festive time of the year, you'll see all the beautiful decorations of the city as you shop, so you might just want to bring the family.

IMAX Theater

After so much shopping, you'll want to find some time to relax. At the Simons IMAX Theater, you and your family can enjoy a great movie. Just for the holidays, the theater is playing Polar Express, a favorite among both children and adults! Order your tickets online by clicking on the link above to reserve your seats for this popular Christmas show.

New England Aquarium

While you're at the theater, you'll want to visit the New England Aquarium, where you'll see penguins, seals, sea lions, and more! Your whole family will love the animal exhibits showcasing these lovable winter animals.  Plus, you can visit the onsite gift shop to get a present for the sea-lover on your list.

Ice Skating

A classic winter activity that is fun for the whole family is ice skating. At Boston Common, you'll find plenty of opportunity to try out your skating skills or perhaps even let your little ones experience skating for the first time. Boston Common is located near downtown, so you and your family will be within walking distance to coffee shops where you can warm up with some hot chocolate.

Christmas Tree Lighting

Also at Boston Common, you'll be able to see the annual Christmas tree lighting, which occurs on December 1st. This lighting has been a tradition for 65 years now, so you may want to try to attend as early as possible to get a good look at the illuminated tree.

New England Aquarium Admission
Long time
Since I have been able to visit the Aquarium, Since moving to Fla.in 1985, I don't go up to my hometownn of Boston very often now, however, I think it's time to plan a trip. I am amazed at how much the Aquarium has changed and the extras it now has to offer. Last time there, the biggest attraction was the GIANT ocean tank. Time to see the new attractions, including the whale watching cruise, and the IMAX theatre.
