This tour will pick up passengers from their hotels and proceed to Rhode Island to explore the beauty of this mansion that boasts 500,000 cubic feet of marble which alone cost Mr. Vanderbilt over $7 million. The remainder of the "cottage," 72 rooms in all, cost approximately another $4 million. The extraordinary summer home was designed by Richard Morris and influenced by the architecture of Versailles. Marble House was built between 1888-1892 and was acquired by the Preservation Society in 1963. Becoming a National Historic Landmark as recently as 2006, thousands have flocked to admire the spectacle of the Vanderbilt fortune.

After touring the Marble House, the motorcoach will proceed to the Newport waterfront  which has been beautifully restored and hosts an abundance of shopping and dining. Lunch as well as other ventures on the waterfront will be designated as free time and tourists may do as they please during this portion of the trip. Upon boarding the bus again, the tour will go to another mansion, The Breakers, also a Vanderbilt home that was constructed after a fire penetrated the original wood-framed cottage. After an unbelievable remodeling project, the establishment became a 70-room, Renaissance-style palazzo inspired by the palaces of Genoa and Turin. When the tour of this mansion is completed, a 10 mile Ocean Drive full of scenic landscape and elegant mansions will lead the motorcoach back to Boston.

Testimonials
If you like to visit the old money cottages (mansions) of 100 years ago, you'll love this trip. It was great, and the docents were especially helpful to us by getting us from floor to floor on the private elevator at Marble House.
Vincent Chesno - Pittsburgh, PA
Our tour guide sure knew her stuff. What an impressive lady! She was so informative and knew her history! She was also very considerate in not talking the whole way. She paused during the long ride and then continued when we approached our destination (both ways). The tours of the Vanderbilt homes were very impressive.
