The West End Hose Company, No. 3 Museum and Fire Educational Center in Biloxi, Mississippi is a location dedicated to preserving the history of fire protection and fighting as well as providing children with the necessary education they need to prevent accidents and hand fire safety. The Museum is housed in a former fire house that was built in 1937. That fire house has been brought back to its original appearance, for an authentic experience of the time period.
The West End Hose Company Museum has preserved and tells the story of the history of the Biloxi Fire Department from the time that it was started in 1883 until the present. The firefighters here started as a fully volunteer group and later became a fully paid for fire department over the years. The museum features many artifacts and restored pieces including a 1880's hose cart, a 1923 American LaFrance chain driven engine and more. These authentic pieces look as they did when they were used. Fire bells from the original fire house can be seen as well as the helmets of firefighters. There is a tribute to those that fell protecting Biloxi from fire.
In addition to preserving these items, the Educational Center is also a functioning element. It provides groups of children as well as schools with education on fire safety. Additional educational exhibits are planned and in the works currently.
Guests can tour the West End Hose Company, No. 3 Museum and Fire Educational Center most days of the year.
