Walter Anderson Museum of Art near Biloxi, Mississippi in Ocean Springs is a one of a kind art museum that depicts many of the works of Walter Inglis Anderson who lived from 1903 to 1965. He was an American Master at his trade. Those that know of his work know that he painted many amazing depictions of people from the Gulf Coast including an arrangement of plants and animals from the area as well. He was an important part of the American Painters of the 20th century.
Additionally, the Walter Anderson Museum pays homage to Anderson's brothers, Peter Anderson, Master Potter (1901-1984) and James McConnell Anderson, painter and ceramist (1907-1998). Peter Anderson is the founder of Shearwater Pottery. The museum offers many paintings, pieces of pottery and a history of the Anderson brothers and all that they left behind.
While these are the permanent collection here, guests will also be able to experience other works of art through changing exhibitions which happen year round and feature many unique and diverse artists from around the world.
The Walter Anderson Museum of Art is in itself a piece of art with its sky lit interior. It features a beautiful yellow that is brilliant in the sunlight. The museum itself features a main galleria where much of the displays are held. There are two more galleries, which also provide for the natural beauty and simple design of the entire location. Across the street from the Walter Anderson Museum of Art is the Ocean Spring Community Center. There, guests can visit to experience the largest mural that Walter Anderson created.
