As the historic home of the only president of the Confederate States of America, Beauvoir was a brilliant destination to visit before the effects of Hurricane Katrina.
Although most of the library and the home are completely devastated, there is an incredible rebuilding effort going underway. A $4.1 million renovation is currently planned to bring the home back to its original state.
In all, about 60% of the artifacts are said to be completely recoverable. Travellers interested in donating to help the reconstruction should contact the operations and recovery department of the home.
