The Cave and Basin National Historic Site of Canada in Banff, Alberta is a location that allows guests to enjoy the natural beauty of the Banff area including the natural mineral water located here. Guests can explore many interactive exhibits to help educate them about the history of the area as well as enjoy the bathhouse and the surrounding communities.
Guests can go inside the cave including the interior pool of that cave where the original vent hole of the spring is located. The basin which is an open air mineral pool can be visited as well. In the bathing pavilion, there are a number of exhibits that can be explored. Throughout you will be able to smell the natural sulphur vapors. In the bathhouse, which was designed to simulate that of an 1887 bathhouse of that time, you can watch a short movie about the location as well as the establishment of the park itself. Guests can enjoy the two smaller springs that are also bubbling here. Then, visit the Marsh Boardwalk Trail where you can learn about the natural history of the Banff area. Birds and fish can be seen throughout the area. There are interactive panels to help you to learn about the World War I internment camp that was once located on the site.
In the winter months, guests are invited to go snowshoeing throughout the area. Many of the activities located here can be done year round. This one of a kind area in Banff is not seen elsewhere with such beauty and history.
