The Buffalo Nations Museum in Banff is home to an array of exhibits which recount the history of the Plains Indians and invites visitors to revel in their unique culture.
The Museum draws its inspiration from the migration of the Native people to the Bow Valley, guided by their herds of buffalos. Here, you will find exhibits that detail the interpret clothing, the hunting techniques and the myriad legends and myths that surrounded the Banff Indian in their former days. You can also view displays of the exquisite Native Canadian beadwork, quillwork and the weapons that were used by this community. The rich and varied culture is adequately represented by the display of musical instruments, and even a beautifully decorated tepee.
You can also experience first hand the daily life and ceremonies of the Native people through their depictions in the life-sized scenes which the museum houses. The Buffalo Nations Museum offers a whole new perspective into the life and beliefs of this community as well as the splendor and the diversity of its rich heritage. The Museum shop offers an array of souvenirs and curios that make excellent gift ideas.
The friendly and knowledgeable staff is very forthcoming and you can gain significant insights into the exhibits the museum features. In summer, you can visit the museum from 11 am to 6 pm and 1 pm to 5 pm in winter. Admission to the Buffalo Nations Museum is free of cost if you carry a proof of our employment with you.
