US Naval Academy near Baltimore, MD is an institution located in Annapolis, Maryland. US Naval Academy is an academy that offers undergraduate education programs for the officers of the Marine Corps and United States Navy. Severn River.
When the school was started in 1845, it was founded where the former U.S. Army post Fort Severn was located. When they opened their doors, they had 50 Midshipmen as students and seven professors. At that time the course for study was five years. When the name was changed to the USNA, they course of study was changed from five to seven. The first and last two years were to be spent at the academy and the remaining three at sea. The first graduating class of USNA was in 1854.
The faculty at the USNA consists of half military instructors and half civilian professors. The military instructors have Master's degrees but not many have a PhD, but the civilian professors almost all have a Ph. D. They are hired by the Academy usually for a period of only two or three years.
To be admitted to the school as a student, they must be between the ages of seventeen and twenty-three, of good moral character as well as unmarried with no children. They then must take a personality test, standard test, provide personal references as well as fill out a college application. To be a student of the USNA is an honor for any young man.
