One of the finest museums of its kind, the Fire Museum of Maryland houses antique fire fighting apparatus dating from 1806 to 1957, including over fifty rigs and a large collection of memorabilia. Among the exhibits, visitors will find a working fire alarm telegraph system, a high pressure pumping system, historical badges and uniforms, and artifacts that trace the history of fire fighting.
The Museum also offers educational programs about fire prevention and the technical aspects of fire and the fire fighter's work. Visitors should not miss the fascinating audio walking tour of the Museum's Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 exhibit, which features first-hand accounts of the fire chief, fire fighters, and citizens who witnessed the blaze that destroyed Baltimore's business district.
