The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum offers an expansive overview of railroad history and a comprehensive collection of trains and artifacts. Known as the birthplace of American railroading, the site contains the finest collection of 19th century steam locomotives and rolling stock cars in the nation, with several historic pieces from the B&O and other railroads on display.
The Small Objects collection presents a fun look at all the details involved in railroading, such as clocks, dining car china, silver, communication devices, shop equipment, signals, and original tools. A short train ride takes visitors along the first two miles of the track leading to the site of the railroad's 1828 cornerstone. The Museum offers many family-friendly activities where visitors can participate in a pump car demonstration, ride on a small wooden train, or watch movies in the theatre car. The Iron Horse Café and outdoor picnic area offer an inviting place to relax.
