Baltimore Civil War Museum in Baltimore, MD
The Baltimore Civil War Museum is housed in the 1849 President Street Station and stands on the site of the first bloodshed of the Civil War. In 1861 a volunteer militia regiment was attacked there by an angry mob of Southern sympathizers which resulted in the death of four soldiers and twelve citizens. The Museum's exhibits take visitors on a journey through the events of that day and highlight Maryland's history as a divided state during the war. Visitors will also learn the story of the station's vital role in the Underground Railroad, the network that provided escape for enslaved African Americans.
