The largest expanse of public green space to be housed within an urban metropolis, the Freedom Park enjoys a legacy of history which is almost as exhaustive as the park itself!
Located along the Freedom Parkway in Atlanta, the park encompasses over six picturesque miles of trails which you can walk, or bike along and 210 acres of verdant pastures. The Freedom Park is a great favorite with locals and tourists alike, who often stop by for a jog, a stroll or simply to bask in the warm sunlight. The park is also one of the oldest in the country, dating back to the Civil War period.
The Park also serves as a great venue for art exhibitions and is a popular outdoor gallery for artists of local and national repute to showcase their talent. Over the years, the rolling greens of the park have served as sites for sculpture and art installations as well as a number of rotating art exhibits. The Freedom Park also houses a number of permanent sculptures like The Bridge by Thornton Dial and Peace, which is a mural by Mahdi Fakhreddin. Artists who have displayed their work at the Freedom Park in the past include Jeff Mather, Corrina Mensoff and Meshakai Wolf, whose sculptures and installations have drawn much acclaim.
The park also hosts a number of events through the year like closing receptions and other promotional activities, details of which are regularly updated on their website.
You can visit the Freedom Park from 6 am to 11 pm, all through the week. Admission is free of cost, which some of the artwork lit in the night-time, to make for a spectacular experience.
