The
Wheeler Opera House has a long, storied history in the Aspen community. Originally occupying the third floor of the Wheeler Block, built in 1889, two separate fires nearly destroyed the third floor level of the Wheeler Block. In fact, after the second fire, it wasn't until 1949 that the
Wheeler Opera House would once again open. After a number of renovations, with the "grand re-opening" not formally taking place until 1984, the
Wheeler Opera House stands today as one of the centerpieces of the Aspen community. Through its role in Aspen's cultural enlightenment to the twisting tale the opera house has within Aspen's history, its no wonder the Wheeler is as revered as it is. If you're looking for a time of entertainment while visiting Aspen, the Wheeler House Opera is sure to have something going on. And even if you're not in the mood to be entertained, the
Wheeler Opera House is still a must see sight when revisiting Aspen's history.
