Redstone Castle in Carbondale, CO
Redstone Castle was once the home to one of the richest men in America who paid an estimated $2.5million to build it in the early 1900s. Once called Cleveholm Manor, the Tudor style castle boasts 42 rooms of which 16 are opulent bedrooms, a gentleman's games room in the basement, a grand and formal dining room, a ladies music room and a very extensive library. Built above the town of Redstone, the castle has wonderful views of the Red Mountains and the Crystal River.
Throughout its existence Redstone Castle has had many functions from family home to bed & breakfast to conference and company retreat centre however in 2005 the property was purchased by its present owner who has recently renovated many of the room and reintroduced weekend tours of the castle. The tours run from Friday through to Monday and begin at 1.30pm each day. Each of the rooms within the main house has been decorated in a unique style and the tour guides almost certainly know a story for every room.
During the winter months when there is snow on the ground it is often possible to enjoy a sleigh ride around the 149 acre grounds. This also provides an opportunity to see the other properties on the grounds which include the large coach house and the barns, which have recently been renovated to enhance their originality. Redstone Castle is a must for anyone who wants to get a feel for the area and the history of this beautiful quaint town.
