Ranked as one of the top three restaurants in Aspen by the Gourmet magazine, Mezzaluna was established in 1987 and has been dishing out delectable modern Italian cuisine ever since. Tucked away in the heart of Aspen, in Cooper Street, this restaurant is as popular for its wood-fired pizzas as its chic atmosphere, making dining here a delectable experience which extends far beyond the meal.
The restaurant serves lunch, après ski and dinner everyday and you can choose from a concise, yet comprehensive menu of starters, sandwiches, entrees, pasta and noodles. The Crab-cakes and the rock shrimp penne with avocado and cream sauce come highly recommended. The wood-fired pizzas range from the regular to the extraordinary, including one which features a seemingly bizarre combination of French onion, Swiss cheese and bacon. For the sweet aftermath, you can take your pick from the desert list or even opt for a scoop of their homemade vanilla bean or coconut ice cream.
The wine list is carefully selected to perfectly complement the food and you can also choose to sip on one of their interesting martinis to jazz up your meal.
The salmon-hued marble table tops, big glass and horse-shoe shaped bar make for a vivacious, trendy ambience. The walls of the restaurant are strewn with over a hundred pieces of authentic Italian art which create an atmosphere of a stimulating blend of an avant-garde diner and an art gallery.
Service is polite and helpful. Reservations are accepted only for parties over six or more, so be sure to make it in good time if you want to secure a table. A popular hang out during ski season, the restaurant attracts a lively, young crowd during the happy hours and dinner times.
