Maroon Bells in Aspen, CO
The mountains of Maroon Bells are reputed to be the most popular in North America and it isn't hard to see why. The panoramic views over the lake and forests with the famous twin peaks in the distance make for a beautiful photograph regardless of your skill with a camera.
During the summer months Maroon Bells is only accessible by bus however these run regularly from Aspen and the surrounding areas. Alternatively you can hike or cycle into the area to really make the most of the day. Once at Maroon Bells you can enjoy any of the hiking trails that run for over 100 miles around the park or if you prefer you can hire a horse and ride the trails. There are no refreshment areas within the park and so it is important to take plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
Maroon Lake is a very popular stopping point and is said to be the perfect place for a picnic or a short break to enjoy the scenery. The park encompasses both the Gunnison and the White River National Forests and it is in these areas that you can see hundreds of types of wildlife, flowers and birds that again make exceptional photographs.
There are a number of establishments close to the Maroon Bells area that offer accommodation, horse hire and hiking guides so that you can really make the most of your visit however if you are feeling really adventurous you may want to camp out overnight in the wilderness areas and watch the sun rise over the mountains.
