What was once a prosperous mining town turned desolate in 1885 when the silver mines dried up. At its height, Ashcroft housed 20 saloons, two newspapers and a school, but today only twelve of the remaining buildings still stand. The Blue Mirror Saloon, Mercantile Building and Whispering Swede Cabin are among the structures you'll still find at the ghost town.
You'll find the Ashcroft Ghost Town about 10 miles south of Aspen, on Castle Creek Road. You can find guided tours of the area being offered in the summer months, or you can brave the journey through Ashcroft on your own at any time of the year. Whether you're looking for a historical count of the Aspen area, a good scare or simply a unique experience during your next visit to Aspen, a trip to Ashcroft Ghost Town will certainly add a little variety to your itinerary plans.
