The Sawdust Eucalyptus Grove in Laguna Beach, California is one of the many eucalyptus groves in the town and hosts the annual Sawdust Art Festival. When pioneers began homesteads in the area, part of the requirement for the homestead was that they must plant ten acres of trees. Many early settlers planted Australian Eucalyptus which have a lovely scent.
The Sawdust Art Festival began as a revolt by artists to what they saw as an unfair jury system which excluded much of their art. They began holding their own art festival in a Eucalyptus grove where they laid down sawdust to keep the dust down. Now the festival features live entertainment, art on display, and unique food.
