The life and times of the controversial 37th President are on grand display at the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace, which features magnificent gardens, fascinating galleries and archives, and the house where Nixon was born in 1913, complete with original furnishings. Highlights of the main gallery include the Structure of Peace Gallery, which features presentations about the President's diplomatic work in China, the Soviet Union, and Vietnam, and the Area 37 exhibit, which describes Nixon's role in the space program and features a recording of his historic exchange with the Apollo 11 astronauts.
Visitors can also see an authentic section of the Berlin Wall, a display of gowns worn by Nixon's wife and daughters, and the flower-festooned memorial sites of President and Mrs. Nixon. The largest exhibit is in the Watergate Gallery, where visitors can listen to the famous "smoking gun" conversation in which Nixon was first informed of the idea to cover up the Watergate scandal.
