The Newport Harbor Nautical Museum, dedicated to preserving the nautical heritage of the Newport Harbor area, provides stimulating exhibitions of nautical arts and artifacts, and historical information about maritime events and customs. A wide selection of educational and public programs for both adults and children include interactive experiences where guests learn about the lives of seafarers and the work of marine scientists, and see demonstrations of the skills and technology, both past and present, that are necessary for a life at sea.
Visitors should also take a walk through the Richard and Betty Steele Model Pavilion, which houses a superb collection of ship models. The Museum also offers ongoing programs such as a lecture series and painting classes for adults, and a nautical adventure camp for children. Special events are scheduled throughout the year, and include the Marine Art Show, the Balboa Island Parade, and several festive regattas.
