Los Angeles International Airport is the world's fifth busiest airport, serving over 60 million passengers a year. Aviation buffs should take time to visit Hangar No. 1, the first structure erected in 1929 and now listed as an historic landmark, as well as the Flight Path Learning Center, which houses photos of the airport, scale models of aircraft, flight attendant uniforms, airline memorabilia, and information on the history of aviation.
"Aircraft spotters" and thrill seekers can watch arriving aircraft from a grassy lawn at runways 24 L&R, one of the few remaining spots where spectators can see low-flying airliners from directly underneath. Hungry travelers in search of a unique experience should head to the futuristic Encounter Restaurant, located in the famous Theme Building at the center of the airport, which offers a space-age décor, spectacular exterior lighting, and 360-degree views of the airport. Public transportation includes airport buses, shuttles, local bus lines, light rail, rental cars, and taxis.
