Anaheim, CA ParksWhere once lay rolling hills of farms with acres of grapes, oranges, walnuts and chili peppers is now one of the most popular and magical travel destinations in the world: Anaheim, California. Even though the area has grown considerably since the first farms flourished in the 1800s, much of the natural beauty of the area is still evident in Orange County's parks. Natural Parks Two must-see Orange County parks are Yorba Regional Park and Featherly Regional Park. Yorba Park, 7600 East La Palma, has more than 400 picnic tables and 200 barbeque pits spread over its 175 acres. With four lakes and streams, countless pedestrian and biking trails as well as playgrounds, this is a park the whole family can enjoy. Set at the base of the Anaheim hills and framed by green, rolling rural land and the Santa Ana River, Yorba Park offers spectacular vistas. Featherly Regional Park, 24001 Santa Ana Canyon Road, is a camper's dream come true, with 119 camp sites, an outdoor amphitheater for summer evening programs and guided nature walks. Of the 795 acres in the park, 729 acres are preserved as natural area. The park also features a visitor's center. One park with a focus on history is the Ramon Peralta Historic Adobe Site at 6398 East Santa Ana Canyon Road. This 1871 adobe is the last structure that remains of the pioneer settlement called Peralta. Once the town was complete and had a saloon, pottery shop and school, but none of these structures survived. The adobe you see today was preserved because of a tourist wave: converted into a gas station and restaurant in 1920, the Peralta adobe catered to the many car travelers who drove along the new Santa Ana Canyon Road. It was purchased by the county in 1970 in order to preserve this important piece of California history. Sports Parks In addition to natural and historical parks, Anaheim has its share of sports parks. Two good choices for sports in Orange County include Anaheim Stadium and Orange County Golf Courses. When it comes to America's favorite past-time, the home of the Anaheim Angels at Anaheim Stadium has the bases covered! In addition to cheering for the Angels, visitors will enjoy special stadium features, including the Pepsi Perfect Game Pavilion, an interactive game area for kids and adults. During the game, the Outfield Extravaganza Area celebrates good plays with a 90-foot geyser and fireworks. Other features include a landscaped courtyard with statues, family-oriented seating and terraced bullpens in the outfield. If all the beauty of the Anaheim area has inspired you to attempt an athletic endeavor of your own, why not play a round of golf at one of Orange County's golf courses? Dad Miller Course, 430 North Gilbert Street, is where Tiger Woods played during high school. It features a flat terrain popular with walkers, as well as a 614-yard par 5. The second golf course is Anaheim Hills, 6501 Nohl Ranch Road, and features lush valleys and hills, a natural stream and tall oaks and sycamores. Whether you come to Anaheim seeking a closer look at nature, a little piece of history, or some first-rate sports, this area has a park for you! Set amongst green rolling hills on the Santa Ana River and complimented by near-perfect temperatures, all under a sunny sky, Anaheim's parks are a treasure to behold! |
