Route 66 Malt Shop in Albuquerque, NM
The Route 66 Malt Shop is a small café in downtown Albuquerque famous for its extensive menu and home made root beer. The owners have kept the café as a vintage 1950s roadside grill and the retro décor includes such items as a soda fountain counter, black and white checkered flooring, red leather seating and walls full of authentic Route 66 memorabilia. The menu is also made up of authentic American dishes with the signature dish being a bleu cheese and green Chile cheeseburger.
Possibly the biggest attraction however is the home made root beer which is available on tap. As an added perk, the root beer is served in ice cold glasses so that the rich flavors can be truly appreciated. The Route 66 Malt Shop root beer is considered to be one of the top ten root beers in the United States and you must give it a try if you stop off at the café.
If root beer isn't for you then you can always try one of their shakes or malts which are available in a huge range of flavors including chocolate, vanilla, banana, butterscotch, pineapple, Oreo, peanut butter and even coffee mocha. The café also serves burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, baked potatoes and a Soup of the Day and if you can't find anything you like on the menu then the owner will be more than willing to cook something to specification, providing they have the ingredients! Thousands of people stop off at the Malt Shop every year and not surprisingly many return time and time again.
