Near Albuquerque, NM, Holloman Air Force Base was originally established in 1942 as Alamogordo because of its proximity to Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Renamed in 1948 after Col. George Holloman, the base supports over 20,000 active-duty personnel, Guard, Reserve, retirees, DoD civilians, and their family members.
