New Mexico is home to a long and rich heritage of wine production, which dates to long before the California and New York vintners raised their first toasts. Established in 1973, the Anderson Valley Vineyards have since contributed immensely to this tradition, producing Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon of the finest standards.
Located in the heart of the northern Rio Grande Valley, this winery was founded by Maxie and Patty Anderson. The winery conducts a short 10 minute tour for visitors to experience the process of wine making. You can view for yourself the tanks and equipment used to crush grapes, the bottling room and even the barrel room where the wines are aged. Guests are also invited to taste exquisite wines like White Zinfandel, Claret and even unique specialties like the Balloon Blush and the Chile varieties. Guided by the expert advice of the friendly staff, you can sip on your wine in the warmth on the intimate environs of the tasting rooms. Although the small vineyard produces grapes that are exclusively used for the production of Burgundy, the winery does purchase grapes from other vineyards, to produce its own Chardonnay and the other varieties that you can sample here. The tasting will allow you to savor twelve varieties on the patio, while gazing out towards the breathtaking view of the magnificent Sandia Mountains. Visitors are welcome between noon to 5 pm and the tours are conducted by the hour from 1 pm to 4 pm.
The facility also houses a small gift shop that stocks accessories which make perfect gifts for wine lovers. The Anderson Valley Vineyard also organizes special events during the International Balloon Fiesta in October. The location is also rented out for private weddings, receptions and banquets and you can call 505-344-7266 to make reservations.
