The Albuquerque Little Theatre was founded in 1930 by a group of community-conscious locals who believed acting and drama would bring the people of the area together. Today the theatre is still going strong and as a not-for-profit organization they boast over 500 volunteers who help with various duties for each production.
The theatre is based in a 1960s building just south of Albuquerque's Old Town and the numerous plays and productions that are presented each year are very popular with both locals and people from further away. The Little Theatre is thought of as a community theatre and many of the actors that take part in the plays are from Albuquerque and New Mexico. In fact the theatre has been nationally recognized for its work in the community and for providing new actors and stage hands with the opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade.
Each year, the Little Theatre puts on a number of productions from different genres. The highlight this year is said to be the upcoming adaptation of 'It's a Wonderful Life' while next year you can enjoy all 37 Shakespeare plays in less than 100 minutes! Auditions for each play occur around 3 months before the production goes live and in many cases the auditions are open to anyone who wants to have a go. To watch the various productions you may have to book in advance however the prices are reasonable and the theatre is comfortable. You can contact the theatre for opening dates and a list of future events.
